Dr Sarah P. Elliott is a native of Maryland. Before she became a physician, she was a medical assistant/medical secretary for 20 years working for a variety of physicians. Then she decided she wanted to become a physician herself. She began her journey by going first to a community college then transferring to University of Maryland. When she completed all the prerequisites for medical school, she decided to apply. She was very thankful to be accepted into the prestigious George Washington School of Medicine in Washington, DC. During the first year, she was offered a scholarship through the National Health program which paid for the last years of her medical training. In return, after completion of her residency, she must serve three years in an underserved area in the country. This was exactly what she wanted, to serve where she was needed. She enjoyed her matriculation through GW and was grateful to be accepted in the prestigious pediatric residency program at Georgetown University Hospital, also in Washington, DC.
During her third year of residency, she was invited to look at five different medical offices, two in the city and three in the country. She chose Wadesboro, NC which was relatively close to Maryland. What intrigued her about Wadesboro was that there had never been a pediatrician that stayed more than five years, most left after three years. She felt that she was most needed there.
Dr. Elliott now has the distinction of being the longest resident pediatrician to live and work in Wadesboro after nearly 30 years. She has been married to her husband, Dr. Lawrence Elliott for 54 years. She has three children, Lawrence Elliott Jr, Esq, Wade Elliott and Dr. Olivia Eliott Peters. She also has seven grandchildren and one great granddaughter. To God be the glory.
