Sick Visits

When children become sick or develop concerning symptoms, it is important they are seen by one of our pediatric experts for timely evaluation and care. Sick visits are designed to assess symptoms, identify the cause of illness, and provide appropriate treatment so they can recover as quickly and safely as possible.

During a sick visit, our providers will review your child’s symptoms and medical history, check vital signs such as temperature and heart rate, and perform a focused physical exam. If needed, we may perform quick in-office tests (such as throat swabs or viral testing), recommend medications or home care, and provide guidance on symptom management, warning signs, and when your child can safely return to school or daycare.

Get Fast, Compassionate Care When Your Child Is Sick or Injured

Illness and unexpected symptoms can happen at any stage of childhood. When your child is sick, a sick visit allows our pediatric team to evaluate their symptoms, identify the cause, and provide the appropriate care to support a safe and timely recovery.

To schedule a sick visit, call the location nearest to you.

Sick visits include thorough assessments, compassionate care, and treatment plans focused on safe, timely recovery.

Sick visits are intended to provide prompt evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment when your child is experiencing an acute illness or concerning symptoms. Our pediatric providers assess a wide range of conditions and tailor care based on your child’s age, medical history, and current symptoms, with a focus on safe and effective recovery.

These appointments are appropriate for infants, children, and adolescents who need timely medical attention but do not require emergency care.

Common reasons to schedule a sick visit include:

  • Fever, cough, congestion, or respiratory symptoms
  • Ear pain, sore throat, or suspected infections
  • Vomiting, diarrhea, or dehydration concerns
  • Rashes, allergic reactions, or skin conditions

During the visit, we complete a focused examination and may recommend in-office testing, medications, or at-home care. Families are also provided with clear guidance on symptom management, warning signs to watch for, and when to seek additional medical attention.

Components of Care During a Sick Visit

When your child is not feeling well, a sick visit gives our providers the opportunity to carefully assess their symptoms and recommend appropriate care. Each visit is focused on identifying the cause of illness, easing discomfort, and supporting a safe and timely recovery.

Sick visits can be scheduled by calling the location nearest to you.

What to Expect

Symptoms & Medical History

We start by reviewing your child’s symptoms in detail, including when they began, how they’ve changed, and any related concerns. We also discuss recent medical history to help identify patterns or possible contributing factors. This information helps guide the exam, narrow potential causes, and determine the most appropriate next steps in care.

What to Expect

Physical Examination

A focused physical exam is then completed based on your child’s symptoms. This may include checking vital signs and examining areas such as the ears, throat, lungs, abdomen, or skin. The purpose is to look for signs of infection or illness and gather the information needed for an accurate diagnosis.

What to Expect

Treatment

Treatment is customized based on your child’s symptoms, age, and diagnosis, with the goal of easing discomfort and supporting a smooth recovery. This may include medications, at-home care instructions, or guidance on monitoring symptoms. We also review what to expect during recovery and when to follow up or seek further care if needed.

Sick Visits FAQs

Navigating parenthood can be challenging. Our team is here to help answer your questions and guide you in making informed decisions with your child’s health and well-being in mind.

  • What ages of children do you treat?

At KidzCare Pediatrics, our providers are experts in care for children from birth through adolescence, including:

    • Newborns & Infants (0–12 months)
    • Toddlers (1–4 years)
    • Children (5–12 years)
    • Teens & Young Adults (13–21 years)
  • When should my newborn have their first pediatric visit?

We recommend that newborns have their first pediatric visit within 48–72 hours after leaving the hospital or following a home or birthing center delivery. These early visits are an important opportunity for our providers to check your baby’s weight, feeding, and overall health, as well as answer any questions you may have as you settle in at home.

Our team is here to support you from the very beginning, and we encourage families to schedule this first visit before leaving the hospital—or shortly after delivery for home or birthing center births—to ensure a smooth transition home. Check out our Expectant Mothers page to learn more about the process of getting an infant started at KidzCare.

  • What should I bring to my child's first visit?

For your child’s first visit, we recommend bringing your insurance card a photo ID. Upon arrival, you will be asked to complete a series of forms, which helps our team stay up to date on your child’s medical history, preferences, and current needs so we can make the most of your time together.

If you’re bringing a newborn, please bring any hospital or birth records you received, as well as feeding details and all discharge instructions. For families transferring from another practice, we encourage you to have your child’s previous medical records sent ahead of time or bring a copy with you to ensure continuity of care.

  • Do you offer telehealth visits for minor illnesses?

No, we do not currently offer telehealth visits.

  • Do you offer same-day appointments?

We strive to offer every child an appointment as soon as possible at all KidzCare Pediatrics locations and reserve these visits for children with urgent or sick care needs. We make every effort to accommodate same-day visits at your primary location whenever possible.

Appointments can be scheduled by calling 910-483-7337.
