BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT

Feel ready and confident for your baby’s first visit.

Your baby’s first visit is an important milestone in establishing care and supporting a healthy start. During this appointment, your provider will assess your baby’s weight, feeding, growth, and overall well-being while answering any questions you may have. Taking a little time to prepare beforehand can help ensure the visit is smooth, comfortable, and focused on your baby’s needs.

What to Bring to Your Newborn Visit

To help your baby’s first appointment go as smoothly as possible, we recommend bringing:

  • Any paperwork from the hospital, including hearing screen results and immunization records
  • Any available insurance information
  • Feeding details or notes from your time in the hospital
  • Plenty of diapers and an extra set of clothes
  • Take a moment to review our patient policies prior to the visit

Frequently Asked Questions

Beginning your parenthood journey can be intimidating. Our team is here to help answer your questions and guide you in making informed decisions regarding your child.

  • When should I schedule my baby’s first pediatric appointment?

We recommend scheduling your baby’s first visit as soon as possible after delivery. Newborns are typically seen within 48–72 hours after leaving the hospital or following a home or birthing center delivery. Once your baby arrives, simply call the location nearest to you with any questions, or if you need further assistance from our team to schedule at the appropriate time.

  • Can I meet the pediatrician before my baby is born?

While we do not offer formal meet-and-greet appointments, our team is happy to help expectant families learn more about our providers and practice. You can view provider bios on our website, call your nearest office with any questions, or visit one of our locations to become familiar with our team and environment. Our goal is to help you feel informed and confident in your choice of pediatric care before your baby arrives.

  • How can I best prepare for my baby’s first visit?

Preparing in advance can help make your first newborn visit as smooth and stress-free as possible. We recommend bringing your hospital discharge paperwork, feeding records, and insurance information. It can also be helpful to make a list of questions ahead of time so you can make the most of your visit with your provider.

  • How do I know if my insurance is accepted?

KidzCare accepts most major commercial insurance plans as well as state Medicaid programs. You can view a list of accepted insurance plans on our website. If you don’t see your plan listed, please call the location nearest to you directly to confirm coverage, as we may still participate with your insurer. Our team is happy to verify benefits prior to your first visit and also offers self-pay options.

  • How should I choose the right pediatrician for my baby?

Choosing a pediatrician is a personal decision, and it’s important to find a provider who feels like the right fit for your family. Many families take into account factors such as location, availability, and communication style. At KidzCare Pediatrics, all of our providers deliver high-quality, evidence-based care and are highly regarded by our patients. You can feel confident that your child will receive excellent care, no matter which provider you choose.
